Tennessee Valley Urology’s Practice History

TVUC (Tennessee Valley Urology Center) is an independently owned and operated medical urology practice. As we approach our 60th anniversary, we are proud to be an integral part of the local Tennessee Valley communities and be known as one of the best urological care providers in East Tennessee.

Tennessee Valley Urology Center (TVUC) has a long and proud history. On July 1, 1963, Cleveland’s first board-certified urologist Dr. C.A. Kyle established his practice to provide urological services in and around Cleveland, Tennessee.

The years between 1970 and 1995 were a time of growth and expansion for our practice. This began when Dr. John Bryan joined us in 1969, changing the practice name to Kyle & Bryan.

As the demand for urology services increased in the greater Cleveland area, Dr. Stephen Jackson joined us in 1985 and we became known as Kyle, Bryan & Jackson.

Dr. Edward McIntire joined us in 1992 and we experienced our final name change. In recognition of the region in and around Monteagle, the Appalachian Mountains, and the valley in between, the practice was renamed Tennessee Valley Urology Center P.C.

Dr. Kyle retired in 1993 and Dr. Bryan in 1995, but the practice continued to provide urological consultations, treatments, and surgical procedures under the care of the remaining partners.

As the new millennium dawned, TVUC continued to thrive, and Dr. Chris Thacker joined the practice in 2001. And then in 2010, Dr. Grant Simmons relocated to Tennessee from New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and joined us part-time.

TVUC continued to respond to the growing need for expert urological care across the region, opening a Satellite office in the Athens Medical Mall in 2001 and consulting with patients in Copperhill from 2004 until the local hospital’s closure.

In 2012, we added pathology to the practice under the directorship of Dr. Xiao Mu. Our in-house Pathology service accelerates the diagnostic process without adding additional hospital costs, allowing us to offer full, convenient, and personalized services to our clients.

TVUC has made great strides ahead over the past 5 years. Our dedication to keeping up with medical innovations and advances in technologies has improved patient experiences whilst allowing us to treat urological conditions with less invasive procedures.

In 2017, Dr. Daniel Box joined the practice and introduced the benefits of robotic urologic surgery. This specialization offers patients a range of robot-assisted laparoscopic treatments that improve patient recovery and outcomes compared to more traditional surgical procedures.

Dr. Thacker expanded his specialization in 2019 to include the UroLift® system, providing additional treatments at Cleveland’s Novamed Surgery Center.
Other treatments we offer at Tennessee Valley Urology Center include REZUM, Testopel, and Bladder Botox.

In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted some changes in our practice and procedures. TVUC adapted quickly to a new method of seeing our patients virtually via telehealth appointments. The ability to offer telehealth appointments allows us to continue to consult with patients during Covid-19, enabling us to manage urological conditions and treatments for both new and existing patients.

Dr. Jackson retired at the end of 2020, and nurse practitioner Amanda Linden, FNP-C joined our practice in mid-2021. The addition of a new nurse practitioner meant we could offer potential same-day care as well as a female provider to those who prefer.

As we face the challenges of Covid-19 and move toward our 60th anniversary, Tennessee Valley Urology Center is dedicated to providing dependable, expert care to every patient.

Our primary goal is to provide the Tennessee Valley area with ‘big city expertise’ and innovation while combining ‘small town’ personal compassionate care. It is our intention that all of our patients receive the prompt care and necessary treatment they deserve.
